After leaving journalism in 2001, he worked in the media relations department at Florida State University before joining the Caucus staff.

Previously, she worked for the Florida Department of Children & Families in its budget services and personnel offices. She also was employed by the Florida Black Business Investment Board. She is the first African-American female elected official in Jackson County, where she served as city commissioner in Malone. She is the second vice chair of the Florida Democratic Party.
